Lenten Mission and Almsgiving

Lenten Almsgiving

As you may recall, during Lent each of the past years we chose one ministry or partner (e.g. SS. Peter & Paul’s sister parish in Chiapas, Riverwest Food Pantry, Meta House, Dryhootch Coffee Shop) to receive our almsgiving donations.

This year we have decided to go a different route. Since Pope Francis has declared this an Extraordinary Year of Mercy, we thought we would challenge ourselves to each open our hearts and listen to the spiritual or corporal work of mercy where God is calling us.

To this end, rather than choose one ministry to support this year, we invite each person or family to prayerfully consider to which work of mercy you would like to direct your Lenten almsgiving. Below you will find a list of the 14 works of mercy, accompanied by a community organization that is living out that particular work of mercy. Once you discern the work of mercy for yourself or your family, you can either collect alms to support the accompanying organization, or you can chose a different one that better fits with your heart.

At the end of Lent, please make a check out to that organization and place it in the collection basket at Mass, and we will pass it on to the organization for you.

We wish you a most blessed Lent, and if you have any questions on our almsgiving project, please contact Andrew Musgrave at the Three Holy Women Parish Office, 414-271-6577. Peace and God bless!
